Alexandria, Egypt: Visiting the Place of Legends

The city that has given birth to countless legends, a trip to the city of Alexandria in Egypt is often a dream come true for most of us. Once the seat of a civilization that is today one of the most respected civilizations in the world, Alexandria is today the second largest city of Egypt. An ancient port, Alexandria is in fact often considered to be the city that connects Egypt to the rest of the world. Once an important center of trade, Alexandria is today one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world.

The very mention of Alexandria creates images of rich opulence in our minds. Though much of the city’s old grandeur has today reduced with the passage of time, yet almost every part of this historic city has some treasure or the other to share with the people who tour her land. The city which was founded by Alexander the Great during one of his conquests in this part of Egypt was once a capital of not just Egypt but also that of the entire stretch of land between Greece and Egypt. Today, much of this blend of contrasting cultures have created a culture that is unique to this part of the world and one of the most striking aspects of a tour to Alexandria.

One of the most beautiful lands in the world, the fame of Egypt as a place of tourist interest stems as much from her wealth of natural beauty as it does from her rich source of history. Thus, if you are planning a trip to Alexandria, be sure to devote an equal amount of time to her beaches and other places of natural beauty as you will to her historical treasures. The coast line that Alexandria enjoys works wonders for not just providing her with important routes to carry out activities of trade with the rest of the world but also provide her with some of the most amazing beaches. The beaches, which are on the Mediterranean Sea is almost always abuzz with activities and is the perfect way of both, lazing about as well as imagining the city the way it was in the ages gone by.

Known for her famous lighthouse, which was the first lighthouse to be ever built on the earth, the city of Alexandria has always prided herself as one of the pioneer civilizations in the world. Though the light house was unfortunately destroyed by an earthquake several years ago, the place where it once stood is still an important tourist attraction today drawing countless tourists as well as students of history to the location each day.

However, today the tourist to the land can discover another facet of this amazing land. With the era of technology ushering into the city of Alexandria as with the rest of the world, this erstwhile capital city of Egypt is today known as much for her shopping complexes as she is known for her historical landmarks. Today, Alexandria is also the site where the modern tourist can try out some of the popular sporting activities relating to the sea. Put on your scuba diving gear as you dive deep down the Mediterranean Sea searching for pearls and rare species of fish!

The city is also a famous center for wellness activities and there are a number of spas which boast of special treatments for both, therapeutic as well as cosmetic purposes. Thus, medical tourism is also an industry that is gaining constant popularity in the city of Alexandria and drawing countless patients of different maladies from all across the globe.
